Volunteer at Welcome House

Volunteers give of their time and talents at Welcome House, helping leverage our resources so we can do the most good for our residents. Here are a few ways you can be involved.

Lay Counselors

As a peer support program connecting residents with individuals in long-term recovery from the Kansas City community, volunteer lay counseling provides recovery coaching to residents who are new or returning to recovery.

While not licensed professionals or employees of the Welcome House, the impact of the lay counselors’ work is significant. They provide invaluable support to residents faced with mending personal and family relationships, staying clean and sober, struggling with spirituality, securing employment, and dealing with self-doubt. Training is provided.

Program Support Mentors and Coaches

These volunteers serve as temporary sponsors, meeting leaders, Welcome House University Instructors, or as lay counselor or mentor.

Fundraising and Special Events

Serving on a fundraising or special events committee is a fun and rewarding way to give back to our community and meet new people along the way. Opportunities include the Annual Welcome House Breakfast, a high-caliber fundraising event hosted in the spring, the Swing Fore Recovery Golf Classic hosted in the fall, or other special events throughout the year.

Third-Party Events and Drives

Welcome House is grateful for third-party events or special donation drives hosted by individuals, businesses or organizations such as churches, schools or scout troops. Consider organizing a Jeans Day or Ice Cream Social to raise funds for Welcome House, or host a collection drive for gently used clothing, food, or other goods.

See our Wish List for most-needed items.
