Do I have to have an alcohol or drug addiction to be eligible to live at the Welcome House?

A:  Yes, the Welcome House is a sober living facility for men.  The primary requirement for admission to the Welcome House is a sincere desire to be sober and change your life.  The mission of the Welcome House is to provide a “high-quality, moral and open residential program to recovering alcoholics and drug-addicted men facing the difficult transition from treatment, incarceration and homelessness to reintegration back into society as productive citizens”.

Is there an age minimum?

A:  Yes, you must be 21 years of age to be admitted to the Welcome House.

Do I have to be employed to be admitted to the Welcome House?

A:  No, the Welcome House program requires that you secure and maintain full-time employment but you do not have to be employed to be eligible for admission.  Please note, the Welcome House does not provide job placement services and it is the resident’s responsibility to secure employment.

What if I’m retired or on disability, am I eligible to be admitted to the Welcome House?

A:  Yes, however you must be willing to volunteer up to 20 hours a week, either at the Welcome House or with another organization, to be eligible for admission (taking into consideration both mental and physical capabilities).

I have felony convictions and am on probation/ parole, am I eligible to be admitted to the Welcome House?

A:  In most cases, the answer is yes.  However, registered sex-offenders and individuals convicted of certain other offenses are not eligible for admission.  If you have a question about this, please contact the Welcome House and we will be happy to discuss this with you.

Are there AA and NA meetings on-site?

A:  Yes, there are at least two recovery meetings held on-site daily.  In addition, the Resident Rules require recovery meeting attendance as a component of the program.

How much does it cost to be a resident of the Welcome House?

A:  The program participation fee (rent) at the Welcome House, which includes 3 meals a day, is $24 a day or $168 a week.  Residents are required to stay paid in advance 1 week.

I am currently on medications prescribed to me by my physician, am I eligible to be admitted to the Welcome House?

A:  In most cases, the answer is yes.  The following medications ARE NOT allowed at the Welcome House: Tranquilizers, Benzodiazepines, Amphetamines and Opioid or Narcotic medications including Methadone. Suboxone as a medicated assisted treatment for Opioid dependence is an option while under supervision at Welcome House.

How do I become a resident of the Welcome House?

A:  The process to become a resident is relatively simple.  Call the Welcome House and schedule an admission interview.  Download the application, fill it out and bring it with you to your interview (or you can fill one out when you come in).  If you are approved, you may be able to be admitted the same day.

What do I need to bring with me to the Welcome House?

A:  Think of the Welcome House as you would dormitory living, with shared rooms, bathrooms and public areas.  Space is limited, so personal essentials and clothes are really all that you will need.  Residents are allowed to have small TV’s and radios in their rooms and can bring their own bedding if preferred (bedding is included and available from the Welcome House).  Shower shoes and bath robes are recommended.
