Rebound for Recovery
Rebound for Recovery
Welcome House is on a mission – a full-court press to fund a new basketball court at our newly opened Welcome House Recovery Center in Kansas City, MO.
The Rebound for Recovery phase of our capital campaign seeks to raise $500,000 for the installation of an outdoor half-court – a place where residents can stay physically active and healthy in their recovery. A place to celebrate teamwork while gaining confidence, beating stress, and improving mental health. A place where men enjoy the bonds of connection and create healthy habits with fellow residents as well as their children.
The opportunity for residents to interact with their children is especially key, as more than half of Welcome House residents are fathers of young children, most of whom are between 6 and 12 years of age.
The half-court basketball project has numerous benefits including:
- Promoting and strengthening father-child bonding.
- Encouraging and educating residents on the benefits of regular physical activities as a critical component of the recovery process. Numerous studies substantiate that regular exercise can prevent illicit drug use and alcohol abuse while also increasing the rate of abstinence, reducing cravings, and lowering the likelihood of relapse.
- Providing a safe space for children to interact with their fathers beyond video and board games, and an opportunity for residents to model the practice of physical exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Your support at any of the following levels will make this integral project a reality, further strengthening the Welcome House Core Recovery Program that has benefited our community for more than 50 years.
